Outside of a few years where I (Pete) was super into UDLs, I have been a bit of a wine tragic my entire adult life. In a professional capacity I do full cellar consultation, procurement, and installations as well as lead guided tastings. I’ve been serving wine to smiling punters for over a decade. In the last several years I’ve undertaken some wine education and am at present pursuing my WSET Diploma in Wine.
I am in my day-to-day life around wine; I like to seek interesting little pockets of curiosity out, learn about them, discuss them, and consume them. I do all of the writing for Like So: tasting notes, general dribble (à la *this*), and responding to your various enquiries.
Guy has genuine wine trade chops. He originally opened Melbourne Cleanskin Company on Drummond Street, before refurbing it into uber-trendy Markov Pl, and then moving on to revive the then-dilapidated, now-delightful Empress Hotel. He has been directly involved in the procurement and selling of wine since 2003 – in short, he knows what people want to drink.
Like So is that significant experience, insight, and breadth of knowledge, distilled into these carefully chosen wines. The bottles that make it to our little corner of the internet are not chosen because they will challenge or stretch your palate (though they can and will do that). These wines are chosen because out of all the stuff we sample, we have picked them up and said ‘that’s delicious,' and we think you’ll agree.
