Gentle Folk Village Chardonnay | 2022
Bright and precise. Excellent cool climate fruit profiles; lemon pith, lime juice, pear, and green apple. The acidity, while present and persistent, sits back in the wine behind the fruit. A little savoury maritime edge on the back palate provides greater dimension. A bit of nutty-ness and maybe some mascarpone, but only briefly and subtly. Some lees poking through. This is one of those wines that really starts to reveal itself on the palate, which is the inverse of what is normal (usually, for me at least, wines are more flashy aromatically, and you get a few of the more dominant characteristics, albeit amped up, on the palate).
This feels for me a little more 'classic' than previous vintages, and I think the wine benefits from that. Focus and precision - purity of fruit. Will cellar well, but drinking fabulously now.
Producer note:
This blend benefits from the acidity of Scary Gully, the precision of Piccadilly and the power of Ashton. Beautifully refined and complex Adelaide Hills Chardonnay that balances acidity and ripe fruit from a very cool and long growing season.
